Vania King, Angela Haynes, Ahsha Rolle

The last two champions of the Pacific Life Open - Daniela Hantuchova and Maria Sharapova - are seeded to face off in the quarterfinals, following the completion of the women's draw ceremony Monday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

Hantuchova rose to prominence by winning her first Sony Ericsson WTA Tour title here in 2002 and reclaimed the crown last year, while Sharapova won the Indian Wells title in 2006. As the top seed in 2007, the Russian fell far short of the title defense as she faltered in the fourth round against compatriot Vera Zvonareva.

But Sharapova, the No. 4 seed this year, enters with a perfect 14-0 record for the 2008 season, including the title wins at the Australian Open and Doha.

She will attempt to extend her winning streak when she opens against the winner between American Lilia Osterloh and a qualifier. In the fourth round, she could face former World No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo, who has won three of their four career meetings.

Meanwhile, No. 5 seed Hantuchova will face either Italian Sara Errani or American wild card Angela Haynes in her second round opener. The Slovak has an 8-4 record record this year with her best result the semifinals at the Australian Open.

Top-seeded Serb Ana Ivanovic, a finalist at the Australian Open, returns to Indian Wells for the third straight year and will attempt to improve upon her quarterfinal finish in 2006. She plays her first match against the winner of Romanian Ioana Raluca Olaru and China’s Meng Yuan, and is seeded to face Czech No. 7 seed Nicole Vaidisova in the quarterfinals.

Last year’s runner-up Svetlana Kuznetsova once again enters as the No. 2 seed, and opens against either American Meilen Tu or fellow Russian Ekaterina Makarova. She has reached the quarterfinals or better in her last three appearances in Indian Wells, and has a 13-4 event record.

Third seed Jelena Jankovic of Serbia will attempt to reverse her fortune in the desert, with her best previous result in six appearances a fourth round run last year. She first encounters against one of two American wild cards, Madison Brengle or Ahsha Rolle.

Jankovic’s quarter of the draw includes American Lindsay Davenport, who recently won her 55th career Tour singles title at Memphis. The 31-year-old returns to Indian Wells for the first time since becoming a mother – she gave birth to son Jagger last June – and is looking to reach the event final for the seventh time in her career. She won the title in 1997 and 2000.
